Situated at the southern tip of La Gomera, the village of Playa Santiago is known as one of the warmest and sunniest spots on the island. The area's favourable climate has made it one of the more popular locations on the island for holiday-makers, and the imposing cliffs that frame Playa Santiago's volcanic beach like book-ends boast La Gomera's only golf course, a couple of small residential developments and the island's only large resort hotel (the well-designed, low-rise Jardin Tecina). Nevertheless, down in the valley behind the beach, the village itself retains a quiet and pleasantly local ambience. In the small port, the local fishing fleet sits side by side with visiting pleasure craft, the restaurants and bars situated along the cater to welcome holiday-makers and residents alike, as do the small supermarkets and other shops scattered through the village.
Apartments Martell is a small block of practical self-catering apartments in the heart of the village, roughly halfway between the seafront and the local school, and close to the village football pitch. The nearest bakery is just around the corner — handy for those wishing to pick up fresh pastries for breakfast — and the rocky beach is just 300 metres or five minutes' walk away.
Offering a choice of one or two bedrooms with twin beds, the apartments are spacious and simply furnished. Each has a living-dining room with an open-plan kitchenette for basic self-catering (with a fridge, two-ring hob and kettle), as well as a bathroom and a balcony. WiFi is provided in all the apartments, as are TVs (local channels only). In addition to the individual balconies, there is a communal roof-terrace with sun-loungers (please note that there is no lift).
Those simply seeking a relaxing holiday in a seaside village will find all the essentials within easy walking distance, and there is a bus service three or four times a day to the island capital, San Sebastian. Alternatively, for those keen to explore the island, we offer reduced car hire rates if you pick up your hire car on arrival at the port; parking is generally available free of charge in the surrounding streets.
