Tucked away in a small back street in the heart of the island capital, San Sebastián, these recently built apartments are perfect for independent travellers seeking good-standard self-catering accommodation in an authentic and extremely convenient location. Built into the hillside, La Hila comprises six apartments. The four standard apartments are situated on the first and second floors and each consist of a spacious lounge with a sofa bed for a third person, an open plan kitchen with a four-ring hob and a fridge, a twin bedroom and a bathroom with a short bathtub. The lounges open onto private balconies overlooking the lane, whilst the bedrooms are at the rear of the building with windows to a narrow courtyard.
There is a communal roof terrace with sunloungers on the third floor, at the back of which there are the two duplex apartments (they also have separate entrances from the small road to the rear, which leads towards the Parador). Although the accommodation is similar to the standard apartments, it is arranged on two levels, with the bedrooms on the lower floor opening onto the communal terrace and the living rooms on the upper floor having their own balconies. In addition, each duplex apartment also has its own roof terrace with views over the rooftops of the town towards the mountains and the sea.
From the apartments, it's just a two-minute stroll to San Sebastián's attractive seafront square with its laid-back cafés which are perfect for whiling away the odd afternoon watching the world go by.
The lovely municipal gardens arranged around the town's historic landmark, Torre del Conde, and the volcanic town beach are just a few minutes further, whilst the picturesque backstreets conceal a number of appealing shops and restaurants amidst their colourful colonial architecture.
Public buses run from San Sebastián to all the other main villages, albeit infrequently, so car hire is not essential for those wishing to explore further afield.
