Standing in extensive and beautifully kept subtropical gardens on the outskirts of the traditional town of Los Llanos, La Palma Jardin offers a convenient location for exploring the island, and the perfect environment and facilities for blissful relaxation. The 36 bungalows and villas that make up this idyllic retreat are spread across the hillside in the peaceful residential area of Celta, approximately 2 km from Los Llanos de Aridane, the main town in the west of the island which boasts an excellent selection of shops and restaurants as well as a genuine local community. The beautiful Caldera de Taburiente National Park is just a short drive away and offers rewarding terrain for walkers of all abilities, whilst just beyond lies the road tunnel through to the eastern side of the island, which takes you to the island capital Santa Cruz in approximately 40 minutes. The seaside village of Puerto de Tazacorte, with its volcanic beach and small harbour, can be reached by car in around 15 minutes. Closer to home, the nearest small supermarket is approximately 500 metres away, and there are two highly rated restaurants at the lower end of the Celta area, so as long as you don't mind the short but steep uphill walk back after dinner, you don't necessarily need to drive to go out for dinner.
La Palma Jardin is aptly named, for its grounds are a paradise for garden-lovers, with over 200 different species of endemic, sub-tropical and tropical plants. The mature vegetation is a sign that this is one of the island's most established self-catering complexes, opened in 1988, but continuous maintenance and investment has insured that this remains one of the most comfortable places to stay on La Palma.
The Bungalows are between 55 and 70 square metres in size and comprise a living room with an open-plan kitchen, a bedroom with twin beds and a bathroom with a shower over the bathtub, as well as a private garden and terrace with lovely views down to the distant sea. The Villas are detached and thus offer even greater privacy, with views of the gardens, mountains or sea from their generous terraces and gardens. Measuring 120 square metres, the villas each have two bedrooms, a spacious living-dining room, a separate kitchen and a bathroom, as well as their own parking area. All the accommodation is attractively furnished and decorated, and equipped with satellite TV, free WiFi, safety deposit boxes, hairdryers, bathrobes and pool towels. The fitted kitchens have everything you may need for self-catering, including a large fridge-freezer, ceramic hob, oven, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee-maker. In addition, the Villas also have dishwashers, and there is a communal laundry area with a washer and dryer which can be used free of charge; irons and ironing boards are provided in each bungalow/villa. To ensure a comfortable night's sleep according to each guest's preferences, there is even a choice of pillows, blankets/duvets and mattress-toppers.
Whilst the setting, the gardens and the accommodation would be enough to make La Palma Jardin an appealing option, what really elevates it above other accommodation on the island is the excellent leisure and wellness facilities, which would be the envy of many larger hotels, and which are unrivalled in other complexes of this intimate size in the Canaries. On sunny days, the outdoor pool and Jacuzzi surrounded by a springy lawn are very enticing, but the heated indoor pool bordered by tropical plants is irresistible in any weather. In addition, there are two saunas and two steam-rooms, which can be reserved for your private use, as well as hot and cold foot-baths and heated relaxation loungers; all these facilities are free of charge for guests over 16 years to enjoy. If you are feeling active, you can use the well-equipped gym, the tennis court and the games room with table tennis, billiards/pool, table-football, chess, board games and a library corner.
The owner, José, and his team are on hand to assist with any local advice you may need, and to ensure that all their guests are as well looked after as the houses and the gardens. Please note that, due to its hillside location, La Palma Jardin is not best suited for guests with walking difficulties, but we would highly recommend it to keen walkers, nature-lovers and those simply wishing to relax in comfortable and scenic surroundings. Unsurprisingly, La Palma Jardin attracts a large number of repeat guests and as a result tends to get booked up quite far in advance, so early booking is highly recommended.
