La Caleta is an attractively designed apartment complex standing in the front line of the laid-back coastal resort of Playa de Los Cancajos. The coast immediately in front of the apartments is rocky, but the dark volcanic sand beach is just a 10-15 minute stroll away. Along your way, you will find a decent range of restaurants and cafés, as well as mini-markets and other small shops for your day-to-day needs, and Los Cancajos also has a very regular bus link to the small island capital, Santa Cruz, with its picturesque Old Town, making this a convenient choice for travellers not wishing to hire a car.
La Caleta comprises 64 apartments, arranged in two and three-storey buildings around a central garden with a free-form swimming pool. With their buttercup-yellow walls, green banisters and terracotta roof tiles, the buildings look bright and cheerful, and the interiors feel light and airy, with whitewashed walls, ceramic floor tiles and colourful soft furnishings. La Caleta is one of the few apartment complexes on La Palma to offer a number of family-sized apartments with two bedrooms (one double, one twin), plus a living room with a pull-out sofa-bed; maximum occupancy is five adults or four adults plus two children up to 12 years old. The remaining apartments have one bedroom with twin beds plus the living room and accommodate up to three adults or two adults and two children. All the apartments also have satellite TV (limited English-language channels), safety deposit boxes (local charge applies), an open-plan kitchenette with fridge, ceramic hob and microwave, a bathroom, and a balcony or terrace with patio furniture.
Facilities for families include a paddling pool for young children, a games area in the reception and a small crazy gold course. The onsite restaurant faces the seafront path and serves varied buffets for breakfast and dinner, giving you the choice between staying on a pure self-catering basis, booking breakfast only and trying out the various local restaurants for dinner, or opting for the reasonably-priced half-board arrangement.
