With its superb sandy beach and excellent range of facilities, the resort of Jandia and the neighbouring fishing village of Morro Jable are ideally suited for families with children or teenagers, but there is a frustrating lack of good-quality, family-size self-catering accommodation. A notable exception is this small complex of 17 spacious townhouse-style apartments, which stand in an elevated position with views down to the resort, the lighthouse, the beach and the ocean. Being set back from the resort centre, the position is peaceful and quiet, but Jandia's main shopping area, where you will find a good selection of cafés and restaurants, alongside supermarkets, boutiques, souvenir shops, bank and pharmacies, is just 500 metres away. From there, it's just across the road and another 200 metres to reach the vast sandy beach, and just over 1 km along the beach to Morro Jable, so a hire car is by no means essential here.
The apartments are arranged in two rows and have been designed in such a way that each enjoys panoramic views down to the sea from at least one of its large terraces. Comfortably furnished throughout, the accommodation feels wonderfully bright and sunny, thanks to the large south-facing windows and patio doors. Each apartment has a good-size living-dining room at the entry level, with a sofa bed for a fifth person (up to 12 years of age only) and TV. The open-plan kitchens are fully equipped with a large fridge-freezer, ceramic hob, oven, extractor fan, microwave, kettle, toaster and coffeemaker. On the floor above is the main double bedroom and a bathroom with bathtub, whilst a few steps down lead to another bedroom with twin beds and a shower room. A local charge applies for the use of the safety deposit and WiFi.
A number of the villas are designated "Superior": these have sea views from both their terraces and upgraded facilities, including ceiling fans; 32" flat-screen TVs, DVD and CD players in the living rooms; bathrobes, make-up mirrors and hairdryers in the bathrooms, and free use of the WiFi.
Whilst most guests seem to spend their days on the beach, there is also a swimming pool surrounded by a sun terrace; handy for a morning swim, a refreshing dip after walking back from the beach, or just as an alternative to the beach on windy days. Next to the pool, there is a small but well-maintained wellness area, comprising a sauna, a steam room, a Jacuzzi and a cold plunge tank - facilities that you would normally only find in larger hotels and complexes. Like the reception, the wellness area's opening hours are restricted to the morning and late afternoons.
Please note that Monte Solana's elevated setting and the number of stairs inside each apartment make the accommodation unsuitable for those with walking difficulties, although those choosing to hire a car will find adequate space for parking next to the property.
