The Hotel Mahoh stands in the small inland village of Villaverde in the central north of the island, approximately 15 minutes' drive from the port town and popular holiday resort of Corralejo with its vast sandy beach backed by extensive dunes, and from the smaller and less commercialised fishing village of El Cotillo, known for the surfing beach south of the village and the sheltered coves and rock pools to the north.
Converted from an early 19th-century farmhouse, this small hotel not only bursts with traditional character but also offers its guests a taste of the real Fuerteventura in more ways than one. Specialising in authentic Canarian cuisine, with some creative twists, the hotel's restaurant is as popular with locals and visitors from nearby villages as it is with residents, and with just nine guestrooms, the Mahoh feels more like a restaurant-with-rooms than a large hotel.
With their exposed lava stone walls, tiled floors and wooden ceilings, the rooms retain the rustic charm of this handsome old building, with is further enhanced by the choice of antique furnishings. Perfect for romantic couples, many of the rooms have four-poster beds; the remaining rooms have either twin beds or normal double beds. The rooms are set around a courtyard at the rear of the restaurant (some of them are up a flight of stairs) and all come with en-suite shower rooms, hairdryers, mini-fridges and TV (limited English-language channels). Safety deposit boxes are available in the reception area, as is free WiFi access.
The hotel's grounds are filled with cacti and palm trees, and on the terrace at the back of the hotel guests can relax by the swimming pool (approx. 12 x 6 metres) which can be covered and heated in winter. Next to the grounds, there is a small horse-riding centre offering riding lessons and excursions on horseback in the surrounding countryside (subject to availability, local conditions and additional payment). The hotel also provides secure bike storage for any guests planning to hire a bicycle, whilst for those days when you just wish to relax at base, it also has a small library with books in various languages.
The half-board option offers good value and includes the continental breakfast buffet and a daily-changing table d'hôte menu for dinner, with a choice of two or three dishes for each course. For those who prefer the flexibility to choose from the full à-la-carte menu and to try out some of the other restaurants in the neighbouring village of La Oliva - or on the seafront in Corralejo or El Cotillo - we also offer the hotel on bed-and-breakfast basis.
