If you would like to have all the facilities of a relaxed resort - including good sandy beaches, an ample selection of restaurants and a decent range of shops - on your doorstep, but prefer the intimate ambience and old-world charm of a small country house hotel, this unique property should be just what you are looking for. Originally created from a terrace of fisherman's cottages in the 1950s by a diplomat, the "Ambassador's House" is officially classified as a "Hotel Rural", but it actually occupies what is arguably the prime position in the whole of Playa Blanca - a small headland right above the pedestrian seafront promenade exactly halfway between the village centre and the gently shelving beach of Playa Dorada.
Expertly restored and converted into a hotel in 2001, the Casa del Embajador now comprises just 13 rooms, and is thus a true oasis of tranquillity in the heart of the resort. Staying here does not feel like being in a hotel at all, but rather like being private houseguests of a fabulously wealthy friend you previously didn't know you had, and relaxing on the lovely terrace gazing out to the ocean and down onto the promenade you cannot help but feel a sense of privilege.
For many years, the Embajador's lack of a swimming pool did not deter the hotel's select clientele, as there are two sandy beaches just a five-minute walk in either direction, and the possibility to swim off the rocks right below the hotel in calm weather. However, in 2018, the hotel decided to enhance its appeal further through the addition of a small but perfectly-sited pool at one end of the terrace, with a massage jet and lovely views out to sea.
Comfortably furnished and beautifully decorated, the guestrooms exude an understated elegance. All enjoy sea views through their traditional sash windows, and come fully equipped with mini-bars, satellite TV, telephones, ceiling fans and rather splendid bathrooms with hairdryers. There is also one junior suite, available on request, which benefits from a comfy sitting area and direct access onto the garden terrace.
The public areas are equally inviting, from the elegant lounge with its huge wicker sofas and dark ceiling beams to the cosy breakfast room. In warm weather, breakfast is served in the pretty inner courtyard, whilst in the evenings, you can try out the many different restaurants of Playa Blanca. After dinner, it is always a pleasure to stroll back along the seafront to your "private" holiday residence, and to admire the starry night skies and the twinkling lights of Fuerteventura across the straits of Bocaina from the special vantage point that is the hotel's terrace.
