Situated in the quieter Kalamar Bay area of Kalkan, this family-run property offers spacious and comfortable accommodation, an attractive pool area and a generous dose of traditional Turkish hospitality. True Blue consists of several small buildings staggered on the hillside approximately 250 metres from the sea, amidst private villas and a couple of other small hotels. With accommodation ranging from stylish suites to practical apartments and large villas, True Blue caters to couples, families and groups of friends, but what makes a stay here so special is the warm welcome and friendly atmosphere created by the owner Tuba and her team, who take pride in ensuring that all their guests feel thoroughly at home.
Recently renovated, the guest accommodation feels modern and stylish, with some well-chosen decorative touches lending a homely feel. The main building contains 16 double rooms/suites, which are let on a bed & breakfast basis. All are equipped with air-conditioning, satellite TV, free WiFi, a small fridge, tea & coffee making facilities and safety deposit boxes, and each has an en-suite shower room with a hair-dryer, a sitting area with a sofa bed and a good size balcony. Some of the balconies catch glimpses of the sea, although these may be partially obscured by the mature vegetation in the hotel's own grounds and those of the adjacent buildings. The Corner Suites are a little more spacious, and those on the top floor naturally have the best views, so these are priced accordingly.
For those who prefer the freedom of self-catering accommodation, or simply seek even more spacious accommodation, there are also twelve apartments and studios spread across three further buildings. Each Apartment has a bright and comfortable living-dining room, an open-plan kitchenette with fridge and hob, two air-conditioned bedrooms (one with twin beds, the other with a double), a full bathroom and a furnished balcony. Those in the "Summer Cottage" are a little larger and can accommodate a fifth person on a sofa bed. The Studios also have an open-plan kitchenette forming part of their living area and a partially separated bedroom; these can accommodate two adults plus a child. For larger families or groups of friends, there are also two semi-detached villas, each with a large living-dining room, a fully-equipped kitchen, four bedrooms (two doubles and two twins) and two bathrooms, as well as a spacious covered terrace and a smaller balcony.
Breakfast at the True Blue Boutique Hotel is an extensive spread of fresh seasonal fruit, cold meats and cheeses, bread and home-made cakes, pastries and preserves, as well as eggs or omelettes. Guests who have booked the self-catering accommodation but who feel tempted by the colourful display on offer may of course pay locally to enjoy the buffet breakfast. There is no on-site restaurant for lunch or dinner, but refreshments are available during the day from the pool bar for those wishing to while away their time relaxing in the sun and taking the occasional dip in the swimming pool.
For those who prefer sea-swimming, the nearest access is approximately 5 minutes' walk away at the Kalamar Beach Club with its swimming platforms, where a local entrance fee applies. The walk back from there is uphill, as is the first part of the walk to Kalkan's Old Town and harbour, which takes around 25 to 30 minutes on foot from True Blue. If the path is a little too hilly for your liking, reasonably priced taxis are readily available, whilst closer to the hotel, a small cluster of restaurants and the nearest mini-market are just under 10 minutes' walk away. We therefore consider True Blue an ideal choice for couples and families who wish to have access to Kalkan's many attractions but who prefer a relaxing base away from the hustle and bustle of the village centre.
