Located between Kalkan's centre and Kalamar Bay, this smart new hotel is owned by the same family as the True Blue Boutique Hotel and like its sister property, it has already earned much praise for the high level of personal service offered by its friendly and enthusiastic staff, who go out of their way to help guests get the most out of their holiday.
Opened in 2021, Payava comprises 40 guestrooms and suites of different categories. Whilst they vary in size and views and are priced accordingly, all are comfortably furnished and attractively decorated in a bright and contemporary Scandinavian style. Each has a modern shower room and a south-facing balcony or terrace, and all are equipped with air-conditioning, smart TVs with Netflix, free WiFi, minibars, tea and coffee making facilities, safety-deposit boxes and hairdryers. Bathrobes, slippers and pool/beach towels are provided. Deluxe Double Rooms are approximately 35 sq.m. in size whilst Superior Double Rooms are a little larger at 40 sq.m., as are the Twin Rooms; for a supplement, some of the rooms have sea views, subject to availability at the time of booking. There are also several junior suites of approximately 50 sq.m., including the Swim-Up Suite for up to 3 people with its veranda opening directly onto the pool area, and the Romantic Suite with its large terrace and quirky indoor swing. For families of up to 4 people there are also two 2-room Suites of 70 sq.m. with a double bed in the main room and twin beds in the second room.
The centre of Kalkan is a 15 to 20-minute walk away, and reasonably priced taxis are readily available should you not fancy the uphill walk back after filling up in one of the many enticing restaurants that line the cobbled streets of its atmospheric Old Town. Alternatively, there are a couple of cafés and restaurants just across the road from the hotel and several more along the road that leads into town, not to forget the hotel's own on-site Café Payava, which serves home-cooked light meals, pizzas and salads throughout the day until 9 pm and drinks until midnight. This is also where you start your day with a wholesome buffet breakfast (leisurely served until 11 am) of home-made bread and pastries, fresh fruit and vegetables, cheeses, preserves and cold meats as well as some hot options each day.
Payava is one of the few hotels in Kalkan to be open all year round and as such is a particularly appealing choice for a stay in early and late season, thanks to its heated swimming pool, which is surrounded by a terrace with sun-loungers. For sea-swimming, you can head to the public pebble beach next to the Old Town, walk down to Kalamar Beach Club in the opposite direction, or take a shuttle boat from the harbour to one of the beach clubs on the other side of the bay. Alternatively, a 10-minute walk will take you to the bus stop for the bus to Kaputas Bay and the vast sandy beach of Patara. However you choose to spend your days, Payava is a comfortable and welcoming base from which to enjoy all the attractions of Kalkan and the region.
