Situated in the north-east of Gran Canaria, the most verdant part of the island, the area of Santa Brigida is favoured by the island's more privileged residents, who commute from here to the capital Las Palmas, just 14 km away. This location is equally suited to travellers seeking an authentic base from which to explore the island, offering convenient access not just to the island capital but also to the mountainous interior, the historic towns of the north coast and - via the east-coast motorway - even the sun-drenched sandy beaches of the island's southern tip.
Dating from the year 1900, this handsome property was restored in 1992 and converted to a 4-star hotel with just 40 guestrooms, and an adjoining hotel school. This unique set-up, together with the building's traditional appearance, lends the hotel a charmingly old-school ambience, although rest assured that students at the school are only allowed to practice their new skills on paying guests after thorough training and under professional supervision, so a high level of service is maintained at all times.
Comfortably furnished and tastefully decorated, the guestrooms are equipped with all the customary four-star comforts, including flat-screen TVs, minibars, safety deposit boxes, telephones and en-suite bath or shower rooms with hairdryers. Some of the rooms also have balconies. Central heating and air-conditioning ensure a comfortable stay whatever the season.
Days start with a wholesome breakfast, with a selection of cereals, cold cuts, breads and fruit laid out on the buffet, and hot dishes cooked to order and served at your table. The hotel's own restaurant is a popular venue for weddings and other local functions, but for those who like to dine around we offer a bed & breakfast option - although the centre of Santa Brigida is a couple of kilometres away, there are a couple of local restaurants literally across the road from the hotel. As we believe that the hotel will primarily appeal to those keen to explore the island, we have included a hire car in the cost of our holidays here, but for those who prefer not to drive, we can also quote for airport transfers instead, as the frequent local bus service stops just outside the hotel.
When you feel like a break from exploring, the mature gardens incorporate a terrace for relaxing, but please note that the hotel no longer has a swimming pool. Those who enjoy a round of golf can play Spain's oldest course, at Bandama, just 3 km away.
